Begin with a visit to a unique workshop where percussion instruments are hand-crafted. Follow it up by a tour of the Barrio Obrero, the worker’s quarter. Today, take a half-day tour of Cartagena and discover why it has the title of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Begin at its highest point, the Convent of La Popa, and drink in outstanding views of the well-preserved city. Continue to the Castillo de San Felipe, the formidable, 17th century fortress with its mystery-laden and complex system of tunnels, and listen to stories from its colourful past. At the base of the castle is the monument of Zapatos Viejos, the ‘Old Shoes’, a tribute to local poet Louis Carlos Lopez, one of South America’s most respected writers. Take the requisite dozen selfies. Spend the rest of the day, wandering about the old town, exploring churches, museums, plazas, restaurants and jewellery shops. And when you’ve had your fill of the lore, you can immerse yourself in this sensuous world that moves to its own rhythm, by taking tango dance lessons, visiting typical tango venues and best of all, attending an unforgettable tango show with performances by some of the best dancers and singers of the country, whilst enjoying a delicious meal. Today, get away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Buenos Aires, and head out to the vast grassy plains of the Pampas, the birthplace of the true gaucho tradition. Spend a day at a typical estancia (cattle estate), ride on ancient horse-drawn carriages accompanied by seasoned gauchos or be bold and get on horseback. For lunch, enjoy delicious "asado" (barbecued meats) together with fine Argentinean wines and a feisty show with folk songs and dancing. Later, you get to see the gauchos in action. Ring racing, horse racing, racing with leathers, the gauchos’ incredible skills on horseback will leave you awestruck. The evening is at leisure. This morning, you see a completely new side of Argentina. Take a trip to the city of Tigre, the gateway to the rivers and wetlands of vast Parana Delta. On your way, visit the beautiful Cathedral of San Isidro. At Tigre, take a boat cruise down the Parana river to explore its famous Delta. An exotic subtropical forest formed by thousands of small islands that can only be reached by water. During the cruise, you’ll see exclusive yacht clubs on the side of the Luján River as well as extravagant mansions on the slopes facing the La Plata River. Attractions also include the Port of Olivos, the “Monumental” (stadium of the River Plate football club), the University Campus of Buenos Aires, and the local airport to see planes landing and taking off.
