There’s perhaps no better time to visit Scotland than August when its cities are in the throes of festival fever. Imagine a week of attending music shows, dance performances, art exhibitions and theatre festivals. Now, imagine them against the backdrop of medieval 15th century castles, stately Victorian mansions and gently rolling hills. The mood is exhilarated, the energy intense, the whisky overflowing, and the feeling that pervades most is, ‘I can’t believe I’m here.’
