The wineries of Ribera Del Duero have been making wine for centuries and boast of an array of flavourful, bold and full-bodied red wines. Enjoy the picturesque landscape peppered with monasteries, churches and castles. Visit Historica Don Carlos, a beautiful winery located inside Aranda de Duero an authentic, medieval Spanish village. Taste three different kinds of wines with traditional appetizers before heading out to visit 16th century underground caves at Lagar de Isilla. One final stop before you continue to La Rioja is at a winery in the famed ‘Golden Mile’. Sign up for a wine tasting and find out what makes these Golden Mile wines so special. This morning post breakfast, immerse yourself in the heady world of fine wines and fabled wineries. Begin your day with a wine tasting at Cvne, a traditional winery, founded almost 125 years ago and still run by the direct descendants of the founding family. Follow this up with a visit to the unique Vivanco Museum of Wine Culture, a large, modern space which houses centuries-old wine vessels, farming tools and works of art, along with audiovisuals dedicated to the history and future of wine. Outside in the gardens, you can learn about 220 kinds of grapes from around the world. Once you’ve had your fill of wine culture, enjoy a gourmet, wine-soaked lunch at the Vivanco restaurant, surrounded by the incredible vineyards of the region. After breakfast today, head to the formidable Castle of Javier located on a hill in Javier town and built in the 10th century. Afterwards, drive to Hondarribia, a town with a charming old quarter full of medieval treasures and incredible views of the French coast. Accommodation in the Parador, located at the highest point of the city, in the 10th century Castle of Charles-V, which still retains its original structure of a medieval fortress and its unique, defensive appearance.
Post breakfast, take a short drive to San Sebastian, also known as Donostia, on the coast of the Bay of Biscay. A delightful resort town, surrounded by a lush and easily accessible hillside, it is known for its picturesque bayfront promenade and its world-renowned restaurants. Upon arrival, take a Tapas tour. Accompanied by a local, you can drop by a traditional tasca, a pintxo bar and even entire neighbourhoods dedicated to tapas.
